Vancouver could move forward to make False Creek a summer playground.
But, hold up.. isn’t this the same creek that stinks in summer and isn’t exactly the cleanest place in the city?
Yes. The city is working with the park board on several interim solutions until False Creek is 100% safe to swim in. They are considering a ‘floating pool’ filled with treated water that would be placed in False Creek near Science World. This is modeled after a floating barge design that already exists in Berlin’s Spree River.
What do you think? Would you swim here?
In the long term there are plans for a swimming beach on the eastern side of False Creek (past Granville Bridge towards Olympic Village). But it could take a long time to make False Creek swimmable – especially in the area near Science World.
